Should be the same as a hard drive. 2 tb is the largest a fat32 disk can be, ntfs goes larger. I have no trouble with such size drives on my system. Internal drive is a proprietary format Sony came up with, encrypted to that specific PS3. File managers on the PS3, like Irisman, can copy or move files between drives.
Considering a hybrid drive for my ps3 to help speed it up. 1. Should of got a 1tb ssd. -2. 9. Right the data bus is only USB 2.0 so there wouldn't be very much difference. Maybe consider a hybrid drive. 3. Yeah I got a 256GB SSD and the difference is minimal.
